Mamata to address party leaders at core committee meeting

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will address party leaders at the core committee meeting to be held at Netaji Indoor Stadium on November 16, Partha Chatterjee, the party's secretary general, said on Thursday.

He said all the MLAs and MPs, councillors of different civic bodies, district presidents, block and anchal presidents and leaders of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad will attend the meeting.

Chatterjee said the biggest programme of the party in near future is the rally at the Brigade Parade Ground, which is scheduled to be held on January 19, 2019. Mamata Banerjee is likely to give instructions to the leaders to make the rally a grand success.

Banerjee will invite all the Opposition leaders of the Federal Front, as the main aim of the meeting is to unite the leaders to oust BJP from the Centre in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Chatterjee said Firhad Hakim, state minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, will look after the wing of the party in municipalities.

Commenting on the CBI fiasco, Chatterjee said a corrupt government is trying to find corruption in others. "BJP has destroyed institutions like CBI and ED, which had earned respect from people because of their impartiality," he said.

He maintained that party chief Mamata Banerjee had said repeatedly that the Central agencies had become puppets in the hands of the BJP government.

Meanwhile, Congress workers under the leadership of WBPCC president Somen Mitra, staged a demonstration at the CBI office at Nizam Palace on Thursday afternoon. Criticising the role of CBI, Mitra said it has lost all its impartiality and BJP has lowered CBI's prestige in the eyes of common people by trying to control its senior officials.
