Malda: Husband kicks pregnant wife's abdomen, foetus killed

In a heinous incident, a husband kicked his wife's abdomen which resulted in the death of the foetus the woman had been carrying in her womb after she protested against his husband's illicit love affair.

The incident took place at Jagjibonpur village under Habibpur police station in Malda. The accused husband, Samar Haldar, who is a daily labourer is absconding since the incident. The local people said that apart from the husband, his family members also fled the house after the incident took place. The wife, Nirupama Biswas, a resident of Jagjibonpur village got into a relationship with Samar who was also from the same village. The accused married her around two years ago.

After marriage, the accused started torturing the woman after she came to know about his illicit relationship. The local residents alleged that the accused used to hit the woman but it turned uglier on Saturday night when the housewife was kicked on her abdomen resulting in the loss of foetus.

The woman's family members have lodged a complaint in the local police station on the basis of which police have started a probe. They are conducting raids to nab the culprits. The victim's relatives alleged that the accused was pressurising the woman to kill the foetus. As the woman refused to do so, the accused started torturing her. They said that trouble broke out on Saturday night when the accused tortured her again and threatened her with dire consequences. A heated altercation broke out between the two when the husband kicked her on her abdomen leading to the death of the foetus. The woman was rushed to the Malda Medical College and Hospital with critical injury. The doctors at the hospital carried out surgery on the woman and removed the foetus. The doctors said that the foetus was damaged due to the impact of the incident.
