Majerhat Bridge construction: Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas take stock of progress
Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim and state Public Works Department (PWD) minister Aroop Biswas on Sunday visited the site of under-construction Majerhat Bridge, to take a stock of the progress of work.
This comes after the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) gave the necessary clearances allowing construction of the superstructure of the new Majerhat Bridge.
The clearance was given on February 28, just a few hours after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised the issued in the presence of the Union Home minister Amit Shah, in the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) meeting at Bhubaneswar.
The construction work has been going on in full swing after receiving the necessary clearances from the CRS. Both the senior ministers of the state government on Sunday visited the spot and inspected the undergoing work. They also spoke to the engineers to get details about the work that is going on at present.
A major portion of the bridge, connecting the central part of the city with Behala, had collapsed on September 4 in 2018. Later, the state government decided to bring down the entire structure and construct a new one in its place.
