Majerhat bridge collapse: Agitation leaves commuters vexed
Kolkata: There was traffic congestion on major thoroughfares leading to Sealdah Station on Thursday afternoon as supporters of the women wing of BJP protested against the caving in incident of Majerhat bridge.
It led to traffic congestion on the Sealdah bound flank of Beliaghata Main Road and AJC Bose Road was affected.
The traffic police tried their level best to ensure that commuters do not face any inconvenience.
The supporters gathered near Moulali and started staging agitation against the incident.
Police reached the spot and urged them to leave the place.
There was a jostle between the police and the supporters as the latter was not ready to clear the place and leave.
Finally, the police had to arrest some of the supporters of the political party.
The traffic police took necessary steps to clear the traffic congestion as early as possible.
Monotosh Jha, a commuter, said: "I got delayed while reaching my destination due to the traffic congestion. It would be good if such agitations are organised on weekends."
