Madhyamik examinee killed after being hit by speeding truck
Kolkata: A Madhyamik examinee was killed in a road accident at Mogra in Hooghly on Thursday.
Police said the victim, Sayanta Das, was a resident of Chiter Mayer Adda area at Mogra and studying in Bagati High School.
A police officer said the incident took place when the student was going for his tuition class on Thursday morning.
Locals and police took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
People, who witnessed the incident, told police that a truck lost control and hit the boy. The truck was at a high speed and the driver of the truck failed to control the vehicle after taking a sharp turn and hit the victim.
Locals went to the spot and found the boy lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Police also reached the place by that time and took him to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The driver of the truck managed to flee. But the helper has been detained and the truck was taken to the local police station.
The incident took place on GT Road and it led to massive traffic congestion in the area.
Police took all necessary steps and cleared the traffic jam as early as possible.
Locals alleged that often drivers put lives of people at risk by driving at high speed.
Despite being directed, drivers do not follow traffic norms. Locals also urged police to take all necessary steps to check such incidents in the area.
Senior police officers in the district assured that all steps will be taken to check recurrence of such incidents.
It may be mentioned that a particular stretch of GT Road at Mogra remains congested almost the entire day. Hence, police are taking steps accordingly, sources said.
