Madhyamgram municipality installs medicine drop-boxes

Kolkata: In a unique move the Madhyamgram Municipality has installed drop-boxes for medicines at various strategic locations under its jurisdiction.

The medicines which will be collected from the drop-boxes will eventually be provided mostly to the underprivileged sections of the people.

Madhyamgram Municipality is said to be the first civic body to come up with the idea of medicine drop-box, so that people residing in the area can donate medicines for a social cause.

The idea has already become popular among the local residents after municipality chairman and local MLA Rathin Ghosh recently introduced the drop-boxes. People are coming forward and generously donating medicines.

Most of the drop-boxes have been erected at crucial locations to attract the attention of the people. An agency has been engaged by the civic body to maintain the drop-boxes.

On Thursday, Ghosh had organised 'Jalajoge Jogajog', which is a part of the 'Banglar Gorbo Mamata' campaign taken up at all the Assembly constituencies across the state.

All the Trinamool Congress MLAs have been organising the programme at their respective constituencies from March 7-14. The programme has been designed so that the MLAs and local leaders of Trinamool Congress get to talk to the people in their respective areas and make them aware about the various state government schemes.

"We will seek votes from the people on the basis of our works. After coming to power in 2011, the Mamata Banerjee government has carried out a host of development and social welfare schemes. Many new projects have been introduced by all the government departments. The social schemes introduced by our Chief Minister have brought a sea change

in the socio-economic condition of the people. Our primary job is to highlight the schemes during the campaign," Ghosh said.
