Local TMC activist shot at in Titagarh in broad daylight
Kolkata: Satish Sharma, a local Trinamool Congress activist at Titagarh in North 24-Parganas was shot at by some unidentified miscreants in broad daylight.
The incident triggered tension in Talpukur area of Titagarh on Monday morning.
Police said the victim was sitting inside an under-construction Kali Puja pandal when some miscreants reached and shot at him. One of the accused youths suddenly took out a gun and shot Sharma from a close quarter. A bullet pierced his chest. He fell on the ground. The miscreants fled the spot immediately after the incident. After hearing the gun shot, some locals rushed to the spot only to find Sharma lying in a pool of blood.
He was immediately rushed to Barrackpore BN Bose Hospital and later shifted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital as his health condition deteriorated. The police reached the spot after the incident had occurred. Some locals told police the miscreants came on a motorcycle. After starting an investigation, police have detained one local youth in this connection so far. Police suspect that some local miscreants might be involved in the incident. The motive behind the incident is yet to be confirmed by the police. According to local sources, Sharma is an active member of Trinamool Congress in the area. Police are investigating if there was any political angle behind the attack or it was a result of a fall out related to some business rivalry. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
