Lake Town's infamous 'haat kata Dilip' arrested
Kolkata: Notorious criminal of Lake Town area Dilip Banerjee, alias haat kata Dilip, has been arrested on Sunday.
It was alleged that Dilip had threatened a person with dire consequences by showing him firearm. After producing him before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Bidhannagar, he has been remanded to 3-day police custody. He will be produced before the ACJM on September 13.
According to the police, on Sunday, Trinath Das, a resident of Swamiji Sarani at lake Town, submitted a written complaint against Dilip.
As per Das's complaint, Dilip used to go to his residential area with his associates to threaten locals. His aim was to continue domination in the area. On Sunday, when Das was having a chat with his friends near Triveni Apartment at Kalindi, Dilip came along with at least 15 of his associates and threatened to kill Das.
In his complaint, Das claimed that Dilip had pointed a firearm towards his forehead in order to kill him. However, Das managed to give him a slip. Later, he approached Lake Town police station and filed a complaint against Dilip and his associates.
Upon receiving the complaint, police arrested Dilip from Lake Town area after sometime. He has been booked under sections 341 for wrongful restraint, 307 for attempt to murder and 506 for criminal intimidation. More than one section of Arms Act was added to the FIR. Sources informed that for the past few years, due to strong policing, Dilip started losing his dominance over the Lake Town area. Sensing that his dominance was diminishing, he was trying to regain his position.
Previously, Dilip was connected to several criminal cases since almost 20 years. Though Dilip got arrested, his firearm has not been recovered yet. Police are interrogating him to locate the firearm and his associates.
