Kolkatans to face thundershowers today
Kolkata: There will be a few spells of rainfall along with thundershower in Kolkata and Gangetic West Bengal in the next 24 hours, while there is a prediction of heavy rainfall in five North Bengal districts.
The state government has taken all steps to ensure that people do not face any problem due to the heavy rainfall.
According to the prediction of the Regional Meteorological Department, generally cloudy sky will prevail for the time being. A few spells of rain or thundershower are likely to take place towards night.
The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 31 and 25 degree Celsius respectively. The maximum and minimum temperature on Tuesday was 31.1 degree Celsius and 24.1 degree Celsius respectively. The maximum humidity recorded in the city was 97 percent, while the minimum humidity was 74 percent.
It has been further stated that there is a cyclonic circulation over the southern parts of Bangladesh between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and it is titling southwestwards, which would cause rainfall in North Bengal. In the past 24 hours, there has been around 162.8 mm rainfall. The rainfall will continue till June 28 in South Bengal and it would continue further in North Bengal districts. In a bid to ensure that people do not face any difficulty in any part of the state due to incessant rainfall, concerned officials in the control room at Nabanna are in constant touch with district authorities. The Disaster Management and Civil Defence department has taken several measures to extend support to people during any adverse situation. According to a senior officer in the state secretariat, one more person was killed due to lightning on Monday night. A total of five persons were killed on Monday due to lightning and one was drowned.
There was heavy rainfall on Monday in both North and South Bengal. There was heavy rainfall in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kalimpong, Alipurduar in North Bengal and East Midnapore, North and South 24-Parganas in South Bengal. In Kolkata, a portion of an old and dilapidated building collapsed on Tuesday. The incident took place at Chitpore Lock Gate Road. No one was injured in the incident. The building is a two-storeyed one and a portion of the first floor has collapsed.
