In a unique drive in what may be termed as an initiative to sensitise people about road safety norms, a programme was organised by all the traffic guards of the Kolkata Traffic Police.
Kolkata Police have taken up a series of projects to create awareness on road safety measures through different programmes among people of all ages. On August 18 last year, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched the state-wide campaign "Safe Drive Save Life" to curb road accidents that claimed several lives.
As a part of the campaign, the Kolkata Police took up several programmes and emphasis was given to make students aware about traffic norms. Teams comprising officers from Kolkata Traffic Police had been visiting different schools to create awareness among students. This was done so that school-goers and college students can go back home and make others aware of the same.
Kolkata Traffic Police recently organised a sensitisation programme from March 26 which continued till March 30. During the event, people from all walks of life took part in different games and other activities based on road safety measures.
Each and every traffic guard organised the programme in their respective areas. The traffic guard headquarters held the same which continued for three days. In the programme that was held in Maidan, taxi-drivers, auto-rickshaw drivers, app-cab and private car drivers were involved along with school children. The initiative to create awareness among school-goers through different competition has become very successful.
The Kolkata Traffic Police have also decided to hold a competition on short-films made by aspiringfilm makers that has to be made based on traffic safety and management. The best short-film makers will be awarded and the films will be shown at important intersections to create awareness.
