Kolkata Police STF arrests 6 for running firearms factory
Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in running a firearms factory.
An anti-FICN team of the STF discovered illegal firearms manufacturing factory situated at Choto Sreerampore under the Jaggatdal police station area, Barrackpore Commissionerate.
Police came to know the names of the accused after arresting three persons for smuggling fake currency notes.
On July 30, the STF arrested three persons from Maidan police station area when they were handing over some fake currency notes and semi-finished country made improvised arms.
They have been identified as Suku Sekh, a resident of Malda, and Md Amjad Rayeen and Md Abdulla hail from Bihar. The STF seized fake currency notes amounting to Rs 1 lakh of 500 denominations and 40 pieces of semi-finished country made improvised firearms from their possession.
After interrogating them, the anti-FICN team came to know about the existence of illegal firearms. During the raid, the STF arrested all the six persons. They are Mohammad Sabir Raien, Md Shaud Alam, alias Sonu, Md Shanwaz, alias Mister, Md Faisal, Md Razi, alias Raju and Md Chand, alias Domu. All of them are from Bihar.
Police have altogether seized 20 pieces of semi-finished country made improvised firearms, one lathe machine, two milling machines and two drilling machines along with a huge amount of country made improvised firearms parts, raw materials and instruments from the factory.
The STF have started a detailed probe in this regard. They are investigating if some others are involved in the incident.
They are also looking into the modus operandi of the fake currency smugglers and also the arms dealers. The investigating officers are probing if the arms were to be smuggled out of the state. The investigators are probing all possible angles.
