Kolkata Police gears up to ensure safe Puja
Kolkata: Kolkata Police has made elaborate security and traffic arrangements for Durga Puja. According to senior police officials from Lalbazar, around eleven thousand police personnel, including traffic police, will be deputed during the Puja days.
This year, Kolkata Police has urged the vehicle owners to write their names and phone numbers on paper and stick it on the windshields as it will be helpful if the car needs to be moved due to some reason. If the owner is not driving, the driver's name and number should be there instead.
A temporary control with a helpline number 9002999999 will be active during the Puja days. On Thursday, police informed that in the major Puja pandals, forces will be deputed from Chaturthi. The full-fledged police arrangement will come into effect from Panchami. This year, a total of 2,509 Pujas will take place in the city.
To secure the city from Panchami to Nabami, a total of eight thousand police personnel will be deployed in the different Puja pandals throughout the city. Three thousand traffic police personnel will be on the road to maintain smooth vehicular movement.
Apart from overall management, 400 police pickets will be placed in different areas. Also, 13 Heavy Radio Flying Squads (HRFS) will patrol the city. Also, 46 watchtowers have been built to keep strict vigil in the areas. Police have also installed Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in 74 places, leaving the existing cameras.
