Kolkata: The state government has asked the Kolkata Police to stop plying of trucks in the city after 6 am.
Currently, the goods vehicles ply between 10 pm and 8 am. There are often traffic jams when the heavy duty trucks develop snag and are parked on the main thoroughfares. Such traffic snarls are quite common in the Port area, BT Road and Vidyasagar Setu.
However, there are goods corridors besides railway sidings and big wholesale markets. The mid-size trucks are allowed to ply between 12 noon and 4 pm. The move has been taken to ensure better traffic management in the city. Sources said that Kolkata Police has started working on it.
