Kolkata is evolving fast: Ambani

Kolkata: The captains of industries addressing the 4th edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) held an unanimous view that the mindset in Bengal has changed and it is now the ideal destination for investment.
Addressing the gathering, Mukesh Ambani said Kolkata is changing very fast. "Every time I come to the city I find it new and this has been possible because of the dynamic Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee." He said Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will invest Rs 5,000 crore in three years, in addition to Jio, which is coming up in a very big way in Bengal.
"Bengal has come out of its slow growth phase and it is number 1 in the country in terms of ease of doing business. Bengal really means business and RIL will be beside Bengal in its forward march," he said, adding that Jio will transform India and Bengal as well.
He said 100 per cent population in Bengal will be covered by 4G connectivity by December 2018. In health and education sectors, the connectivity will play a major role. He said RIL has invested Rs 15,000 crore so far in Bengal. "We are committed to take Bengal to the top once again," he added.
He said Jio connectivity will take Bengal to a different plane. Now work is on to ensure Jio connectivity in 13 towns and slowly, entire Bengal will be connected. "Digitalisation will make the administration efficient and transparent. It will help Bengal enormously. Digital technology has changed lives and Bengal must embrace digital technology," he said.
Ambani recalled his visit to BGBS in 2016 and lauded the effort of the state government to set up the convention centre, which is of international standard. "The Convention Centre shows how serious and dynamic the state government is to do business," he said, adding "the people in Bengal are eager to accept the major changes that have taken place in the field of digital communication."
He said Jio phones will be made available in Bengal soon. He lauded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's role in conducting the finale of the Fifa Under 17 World Cup at Salt Lake stadium. "We all appreciate her role in conducting the show so smoothly."
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited the house of Ambani in Mumbai and requested him to come for the BGBS.
