The bandh called by BJP at Raigunge in North 24 Parganas turned violent when the BJP supporters ransacked and damaged vehicles including state-run buses. The incident took place on National Highway 34.
The bandh supporters also held a truck driver for plying the vehicle. Most of the shops at Raigunge remained closed since the morning. State-run buses were operating in the area though private buses were few in number. It has been alleged that the BJP supporters stopped the vehicles and harassed the drivers.
A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
The situation became normal after the intervention of the senior police officers in the district. It may be mentioned that one person, believed to be a BJP supporter, was killed when supporters of two political parties clashed in North Dinajpur on Saturday. The clash took place at Chatragach under Chopra police station of the district.
