Husband kills wife, surrenders before police

A husband has surrendered before the police after killing his wife.
The incident occurred in Silbagan area of Serampore in Hooghly on Thursday. The accused told the police that he committed the murder as her wife had developed illicit relationship a person.
The family members of the victim, however, alleged that the accused killed the woman as they failed to provide the dowry as it was demanded by the family members of the accused.
Cotu Seikh, the accused went to the police station and told the police that he committed the murder of his wife. He told the police that he married to Sahana Begum around two years ago. The woman also delivered a baby boy few months ago.
The victim's family members alleged that the husband used to pressurise her to fetch money from her parental house. She had also been subjected to both physical and mental torture at her in-laws' house. After the baby was born, the accused and his family members asked the victim to bring Rs two lakh rupees from her parents with which they were interested in buying a car. It was also alleged that the victim had fled from her in-laws' house on several occasions after failing to bear the torture.
Police on Thursday recovered the body of the victim from near the banks of Hooghly. During the interrogation, the accused, however, denied the allegation and claimed that he committed the crime only because his wife had developed an extra marital relationship with a person. Police have started a detailed probe in this regard and initiated a probe.
