BBD Bag bus stand shut for East-West tunneling work

The BBD Bag mini bus stand has been closed from Wednesday onwards to carry out the tunneling work of the East-West Metro.
It was decided earlier to shift the bus stand for the time being so that the construction work of the East-West Metro can be carried out smoothly.
The state government had principally agreed to shift the mini bus stand at Dalhousie Square and at the same time, the decision on shifting the tram tracks was also taken.
A delegation comprising senior officials of the state Transport department, East-West Metro authorities and police visited the BBD Bag area on Tuesday and did a recce of the place before initiating the work. However, the closure of the mini bus stand in no way will leave any effect on the bus services. The mini buses used to get parked at the bus stand and used to leave for their respective destinations at a scheduled time. Now, the only difference will be that the buses will not be parked at the bus stand but their operations in all the routes from BBD Bag will continue.
Following a detailed discussion with the East-West Metro authorities, the state Transport department had assured that the area will be handed over to them by July 5 to carry out the tunneling work for the Metro.
Besides providing all sorts of support to the East-West Metro authorities to carry out the work smoothly, the state Transport department and police are taking all necessary steps to ensure that commuters do not face any inconvenience.
Already the police have prepared an elaborate plan to avoid traffic congestion when the tunneling work will be carried out under Brabourne Road. Alternative routes have already been identified through which vehicles will be passing when Brabourne Road flyover and the road under it will remain closed for three days from Saturday.
