Elderly man dies, decomposed body recovered from house

Mystery shrouds the death of an elderly man whose decomposed body was recovered from his house at Gopinathpur in West Midnapore on Wednesday.

The local residents felt a smell coming out from the place where the victim used to go and spend time.

The resident informed the matter to the local police station from where a police team reached the spot and recovered the body which was in a decomposed condition. Police suspect that the victim died a couple of days ago. They came to know from local people that the victim was staying at the house alone.

"The body was found from beside a canal. The person used to go there and sit for hours gossiping with his friends. On Wednesday, the local residents felt the smell coming out from there and they saw the body was lying beside the canal," said a police source.

According to the preliminary investigation, police did not find any foul play behind his death. The man was suffering from various ailments due to his old age. Police are investigating that whether he had committed suicide or there were some other reasons behind his death.
