Promoter shot dead in Raigunge

A promoter has been shot dead by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight at Ashokepally area of Raigunge on Wednesday triggering panic among the local residents. The local people said that the victim Tinku Thakur was a Trinamool Congress activist in the locality.
A resident of Netajipally area of Raigunge, Thakur was going to his workplace along with Saroj Chakraborty, one of his associates on his bicycle. When they were passing through Ashokepally area, some miscreants stopped their way. The accused asked Thakur to go with them. As he refused to go with the miscreants, one of them took out a gun and shot the businessman from point blank range. The accused fired four rounds of bullets at the victim.
Chakraborty, who was accompanying the victim, fled from the spot immediately after the incident to save his life. Some miscreants chased him but failed to catch hold of him. The victim received bullet injuries on his head and near his ears. After hearing gunshots, the local residents rushed to the place and found the victim lying in a pool of blood. They rushed the victim to a local hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused were three in numbers who came on a motorcycle. The local residents also staged a demonstration in front of the police officers who reached to the spot for the sake of investigation. The senior police officers assured the local residents that strong action will be taken against the accused who were involved in the incident.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old business rivalry might have led to the murder of the victim. Police are also investigating if there is any political angle to this incident as the victim was a Trinamool Congress local activist and are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
