Xavier's alumni body's secretary interrogated

Senior officers of the Kolkata Police on Monday interrogated Firdous Hussain, secretary of alumni body of the St Xavier's College, in connection with an ongoing probe in which some candidates were admitted to the college.
Police on Monday summoned Hussain at Lalbazar at 5 pm. Hussain appeared before the investigating officer who has been probing into the incident.
Police interrogated him till late on Monday evening. His name cropped up in the interrogation of Shyamal Poddar (50) of Chandannagar and Subrato Chakraborty (59) who were earlier arrested by the Anti Rowdy Squad (ARS) of the city police.
Police on June 28 arrested the two accused from in front of Surendranath College under Muchipara police station. The ARS has been investigating into the admission of candidates which were allegedly done against a huge amount of money.
Police came to know that the accused would gather in that area to take an amount of Rs 15 lakh from one Shyamal Poddar. When Poddar came near Surendranath College to hand over the amount to Subrato Chakraborty for admission of his candidate in a desired college, they were arrested.
In the interrogation of the accused, police came to know that some candidates were admitted by the accused against huge amount of money.
The police also came to know the name of Hussain while interrogating the two accused.
Hussain's name had cropped up as a person who helped for the admissions which were done against money. Police were also verifying the claims of the arrested persons by interrogating Hussain.
He was interrogated by the senior police officers till late Monday evening for the verification of the information. Police officers are yet to confirm if the allegations of the two accused were true.
