The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned MP Sultan Ahmed on Monday in connection with the Narada sting operation.
It is learnt that the investigating officers of the CBI on Monday took statement of Ahmed in connection with the sting operation. They had asked Ahmed to say if he knows anything about the sting operation to verify the statements of Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel.
Ahmed's summon came after the CBI officers had questioned the deputy mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Iqbal Ahmed.
Sources said that the name of a football club has cropped up in the due course of the probe taken up by the central investigating agency. The investigating officers would first find out whether the club has any involvement in the entire episode of the Narada sting operation in reality or not. According to the officers of the investigating agency, many such aspects cropped up during investigation. But there has to be proper evidence and justification to establish the points.
The MP from Uluberia Lok Sabha Constituency had failed to turn up at the CBI's office on the day he was summoned as he had some pre-scheduled programmes. But his counsel sought some time after stating that Ahmed will be cooperating with the investigators. Finally, he landed up at the investigating agency's office at Nizam Palace on Monday morning.
