Primary school teacher comes under train, suicide suspected

Mystery shrouds the death of a school teacher whose body was found from the railway tracks near Katwa station in East Burdwan on Monday morning.
Local residents, however, told the police that they saw the victim committing suicide by throwing herself in front of a running train. The incident triggered tension in the area. The victim, Bina Das Mondal was a teacher of a primary school. Police recovered the body of the woman and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Police have interrogated the victim's husband Nikhil Mondal. Mondal, a resident of Murshidabad took his wife to Burdwan University to submit her B.Ed assignment papers. They were returning home via Katwa where Mondal asked his wife to wait outside the station as he was going to get a railway ticket. After getting the ticket, the husband found that his wife was not there outside the station and started a search.
He later came to know from the railway police that a woman committed suicide by jumping in front a speeding train. Police came to know in the interrogation that Mondal was going back home with his wife. The woman had a seven-year-old daughter and a 10-months-old son. Police are yet to know why the couple went to Katwa while returning from Burdwan University. Police were also investigating why she decided to commit suicide when she has a son who is just 10-months-old.
Police suspect that there was a quarrel between the couple over pursuing B.Ed course. In the course of investigation, police came to know that the mobile phone of the victim was with her husband at the time of the accident. The investigating officer is not ruling out the possibility of foul play in this incident. Police have started a detailed probe in this connection. They will also interrogate the family members of the victim.
