One dead, four injured after truck hits bus in Malda

One person was killed while four others were injured when their bus was hit by a truck.

The incident occurred in Katagarh area of Malda on National Highway 34 on Sunday afternoon. Police said the victims are all Trinamool Congress supporters who were returning after attending a public rally. The local residents told the police that the bus was at top speed when it was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Alerted by a loud thud, the locals rushed to the site of the accident and tried to help out the victims. Those injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where one was declared brought dead while the others are undergoing treatment with serious injuries. The condition of some is stated to critical. The driver of the truck fled the spot along with the vehicle. Raids are being conducted to nab the errant driver.
