3 workers die after falling into septic tank

Three construction workers died after falling inside an open septic tank at Chopra in Nadia district on Sunday. Police said these construction workers — Bokbul Mullick (27), Faruk Mullick (28) and Abdul Hamid Mondal (50) were working in a local businessman's house. One of the workers accidentally fell inside the deep septic tank while the two others died while trying to rescue him.
Divers took out the bodies from the tank and were sent for post-mortem. "After primary investigation, we can say that it is an accident. We have learnt that those people were working behind the house. One of the workers fell inside the tank and the other two jumped inside to rescue him. But all of them unfortunately died," said a police officer. Police said, Ranjit Singh, a local businessman had employed Abdul Hamid Mondal and his workers to complete an unfinished work a few days ago. Bokbul was sitting there on the edge of the septic tank when she fell inside the tank. Faruk and Abdul Hamid rushed after hearing her screams.
"We will interrogate the owner of the house very soon. We will ask him why the tank was completely uncovered," the officer added. Police said that it was a case of negligence on the part of the owner who had left the septic tank uncovered. "It is the duty of the house owner to ensure that the tank in covered. We have recorded detailed statements of the owner and other family members. We have also recorded the statement of the neighbours," the officer added. The family members of the deceased have demanded compensation from the house owner.
