HIDCO to set up model houses in Santiniketan

Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) will set up three model houses complete with furniture and fixture at Gitabitan township in Santiniketan to inform people interested to buy plots there.
This is for the first time when a state government agency is constructing model houses at a township so that proposed buyers can have an idea of the buildings which they intend to buy. There will be 6 cottah, 4 cottah and 2.5 cottah plots. The date of application for the plots will be announced soon. The plots will be allotted on the basis of lottery. The township is coming up on 100 acre of land. Preliminary work has already started in June.
Gitabitan township will be constructed keeping in mind the tradition, ambience and culture of Santiniketan. It will come up close to Biswa Bangla Viswavidyalaya which will also be constructed by HIDCO with funds provided by the state Education department.
There will be duplex-type buildings at the township, with kitchen and dining rooms on the ground floor and bed rooms with attached toilets on the first floor. There will be a small plot of land in front of the house. Those who will get the land will get free plans ready for sanction by the allottee's signatures only. Options will be given for turnkey construction by Santiniketan Sriniketan Development Authority (SSDA) on payment of necessary costs.
There will be a central plaza and the landscaping will be done keeping in mind the tradition of the area. There will be a cluster of shops where the owners will stay on the first floor.
HIDCO officials said the township will be a planned one and hoped that due to its proximity from Kolkata, Gitabitan township will not face any problem in attracting buyers.
It may be mentioned that the state government will set up five more townships. The Uttam City will come up at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas on 89 acre of land. Agnibina and Teesta townships will be constructed on 59 acre and 51 acre of land in Asansol and Siliguri respectively.
