National Doctor's Day observed in state

The National Doctors' Day was observed throughout the state with stress on improved patient-doctor relationship.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Today is national Doctors Day. Congratulations to all practitioners, professors and all in the community for benevolent service to society." The National Doctors Day is celebrated to mark the birth and death anniversary of legendary medical practitioner Dr B C Roy.
A programme was held in the house of Dr Roy on Wellington Square which he donated to set up the polyclinic. Senior state government doctors remembered his contribution both as a doctor and as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. The doctors said despite his busy schedule as the Chief Minister, he attended patients at his house every day. Because of his initiative, four undergraduate state-run medical colleges were set up in the city. The doctors recalled his long association with RG Kar medical College and Hospital where he was a teacher of medicine.
Medical Bank distributed green cards among 300 senior citizens to mark the day. D Ashis, general secretary of the organisation said the card holders will get free treatment at the organisation's clinic at Hatkhola in Sobhabazar along with free examination of blood, testing of eyes etc. The organisation will help them if major treatment is required. The organisation will also provide counselling to those elderly people who are suffering from depression.
It will also taken them around the city during the Durga Puja. The green card will be valid for one year that is till June 30, 2018. Sadhan Pandey, state Consumer's Affairs minister and Mitali Saha, local Trinamool Congress Councillor of ward 9 along with several doctors were present at the function.
Different NGOs distributed sweets and fruits among the patients of different state-run hospitals to mark the occasion.
