Youth shot dead by gang of miscreants

A gang of unidentified miscreants shot a youth to death on Friday night at Rathtala in South 24 Parganas.
Police said that the deceased, indentified as one Soumitra Naiya (25), a local resident was returning home when some miscreants blocked his way and shot him from point blank range.
Police are yet to identify the miscreants. According to preliminary investigation, the police suspect that an old rivalry could have led to the incident.
The investigators learnt that Naiya was a resident of a nearby locality called Nagartala under the jurisdiction of Jibantala police station. He came to Rathtala for some work and was returning home from there. The local residents in that area heard a gunshot and rushed to the spot to find the victim lying in a pool of blood. They saw the miscreants were escaping from the spot.
The residents took the victim to a hospital and later he was shifted to another hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The eyewitnesses of the incident told the police that the miscreants were two or three in number and they came on motorcycles. The miscreants stopped victim and pointed their guns at him. They shot him twice and fled from the spot. The victim fell on the ground after he received a bullet in his head. After being informed, police rushed to the spot and started a probein this connection.
