Group of 200 women ransack country liquor units

A group of around 200 women on Friday night ransacked two country liquor manufacturing units in Rampurhat in Birbhum district.
Later, police arrested one person on charges of brewing liquor. The local residents had been complaining of country liquor manufacturing units creating nuisance in the locality for a long period.
The area has allegedly turned into a den of criminals because of these units. Drunken driving has also led to a number of accidents in the area. Educational institutes located here were also facing problems because of these liquor manufacturing units.
The local women entered the area and ransacked two country liquor shops. They also destroyed about 200 litre country liquor, some of which was stored in pouches.
"These shops have created enormous trouble for us. We do not feel safe with drunkards moving around. So we decided to destroy these shops on our own," said a woman.
"Liquor vends are not allowed to set up near National Highway. But some people set up shops here and are running the trade freely. So we decided to ransack the shops," the woman further added.
