Chandannagar commissionerate starts operation in Hooghly

The newly-formed Chandannagar Police Commissionerate in Hooghly has started functioning from Friday.
Surajit Kar Purkayastha, Director General of Police, has announced the commencement of the functioning of the commissionerate in Nabanna.
Peeyush Pandey, an IPS of 1993 batch, has become the first commissioner of the Chandannagar Commissionerate.
A major urban part of the district along river Hooghly has been brought under the jurisdiction of the commissionerate to ensure better policing.
This is the sixth police commissionerate in the state that has been formed after Howrah, Bidhannagar, Barrackpore, Asansol-Durgapur and Siliguri police commissionerates.
Areas under nine police stations including Bhadreswar, Rishra, Serampore, Chinsura, Dankuni and two
women police stations have been brought under the jurisdiction of the police commissionerate.
The state government had taken the initiative to ensure better policing in the areas. At the same time, the newly-formed commissionerate will be taking steps to ensure better traffic movement. It may be mentioned that the system of traffic management has completely changed in all the commissionerates those that came up earlier. Moreover, the incidents of different crimes have also been checked.
Similarly, the work has been started by officers if the newly formed Commissionerate to bring an overall improvement in policing as early as possible. The task of bringing the entire area under coverage of CCTV will also be taken up.
