Youth tries to kill woman after she turns down marriage proposal

A youth was arrested on charges of attempting to kill a woman after she had turned down his proposal to get engages into an affair. The incident took place on Wednesday night at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas.

The accused Tahirul was remanded to the custody of the police for three days.

Police said that the incident took place when the victim was heading towards her elder sister's house to attend a programme. The youth was following her and attacked the woman when she was passing through a deserted area. He stabbed her repeatedly.

Local people heard the victim's cry for help and went to the spot to rescue her. They took the woman to a hospital where she was admitted. They caught the youth and handed him over to the police.

Police said that the youth had been keeping a watch on the woman for the past few days and attacked her when she travelling alone on Wednesday night.
