Clash between TMC factions: Cops arrest 10 more

South 24 Parganas police have arrested 10 persons for creating trouble at Nebukhali village of Basanti in South 24-Parganas.

The district police and a team of the Criminal Investigation Department conducted a joint raid in the village and recovered 20 live bombs from the area. As tension has been prevailing in the area, RAF has been deployed at the village to maintain peace.

More than 10 persons were injured in a clash that broke out between two factions within the Trinamool Congress at Basanti on Tuesday. Each group hurled bombs at each other triggering tension among the local residents. Bomb Squad of the CID on Wednesday defused the bombs. The district police on Tuesday arrested five persons including a panchayat pradhan of Trinamool Congress in this connection. Police also recovered a huge amount of bombs and ammunitions from the village. The clash broke out between the Trinamool Congress activists and the supporters of the Youth Trinamool Congress.

A police picket had been set up in the area to check further tension in the area. The agitating mob also attacked the police when they tried to pacify them. The incident further complicated the situation and the local people were scared to come out of their houses as the area virtually turned into a battlefield. It has also been alleged that both the group members hurled bombs at the police force but the policemen managed to escape splinter injuries.

Senior TMC leaders visited the Canning Sub-divisional hospital to see the injured persons who are still undergoing treatment. Top party leaders said that law will take its own course and police will take action against the accused.
