Youth thrashed by villagers for sexually assaulting girl

A youth was beaten up by the villagers after he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl at a village in Raigunj on Tuesday.

Later, the villagers handed over the accused youth to the police and demanded strong action against him.

Khonkon Sarkar (25), the accused person, was taken to a hospital by the police officers and he was admitted there in a critical condition. Police learnt that the victim girl was alone in her house while the accused youth entered the house. She tried to escape from there but could not do anything as the youth had locked the main door of the house and kept the key in his pocket.

The neighbours heard her screaming from the house and rushed there. They broke the door and caught the youth red-handed. He was taken to a village ground. The neighbours informed the whole incident to the villagers gathered there. It was around 15-20 persons who started beating Sarkar with bamboo sticks and pieces of wood. The accused person received heavy injuries on his head, back and chest. He was lying in a pool of blood when police officers rescued him from the spot.
