Woman found dead in house

Mystery shrouds the death of a woman whose body with severe injuries was found inside the toilet of her house at Lake Town in Siliguri on Sunday night.

Police detained her husband and two stepsons of the woman for interrogation. The investigators learnt that the deceased Sikha Chakrabarty was beaten up with a blunt instrument, which was probably an iron made water pipe. The investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon from the spot.

The investigators learnt, Sikha was the second wife of his husband Santanu Chakrabarty. Santanu married Sikha after his first wife died a few years back. Santanu's son did not accept Sikha as a family member.

Recently, Sikha had received serious injuries after she met with an accident. One of her legs had to be amputated after the surgery. "She was walking with the help of a crutch. Her stepsons used to regularly quarrelled with her over properties and financial issues," said a neighbour.

Police sent her body to post-mortem. "We have seen several external injuries on her body. She was beaten up with the blunt instrument. The assailants hit on her head, chest and back," said a police officer.

"We will wait for the post-mortem report. However, we have already started a case on the basis of the complaint lodged by relatives of deceased," the officer added.
