DMC takes steps to ward off unknown fever

Durgapur Municipal Corporation (DMC) started various activities to control mosquito-borne diseases. They have initiated work at the most badly affected localities where reports of some unknown fever has originated. It may be mentioned that two children died in the town last week after they reportedly fell ill due to the aforementioned unknown fever.
The DMC staff initiated work in Sagarbhanga, Angadpur, Viswakarma Nagar and Nayem Nagar, where a number of patients have been admitted to the hospitals with unknown fever.
The Health department staff of the BMC recently conducted a study to identify the high-risk areas. Some wards were identified as high-risk zones based on the data collected from the study. The civic body is also taking steps to reduce the source of mosquito-borne diseases.
The district administration have also taken weekly drives just before the start of the monsoon. Health camps were organised in the slum area. "The patients with the unknown fever were admitted in a government hospital at Bidhannagar, main hospital at Durgapur Steel Plant, Vivekananda hospitals. Some of the patients were taken to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. We expect that the medical college will have better treatment facility," said a local resident.
The DMC staff started spraying mosquito repellents and bleaching powder in all the wards. The civic body is also organising awareness campaigns where dos and don'ts to prevent mosquito-borne diseases were discussed. It may be mentioned that a 12-year-old girl died a few days ago after she fell ill due to an unknown fever in the town. Several other reports of death also came to the district administration.
