One killed, many injured in 3 separate road mishaps

One person was killed while many others were injured in three separate road accidents in the state.

Around five persons were injured with three of them in critical conditions when the car they were travelling in was hit by a crane on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass on Saturday night. When the car hit the crane, another car coming behind rammed into it.

Police said that the crane was being taken to a construction site of Metro railway project from the Science City side by the wrong direction.

When it was came near the Metropolitan area on EM Bypass, the crane suddenly hit a car which was running at top speed. Another car which was behind the earlier car lost control and hit it from the rear. A woman and her child who were travelling in the second car also received injuries.

According to the police the driver of the first car and a passenger received severe injuries in the incident.

The local people rushed to the spot and rescued the injured victims and took them to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital where the condition of some of them are stated to be serious.

Traffic sergeants who were posted at the Beliaghata and Kasba traffic guard rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and held the driver of the crane. Police also seized both the cars and the crane. Police have initiated a probe in this connection. The investigating officers will take the help of CCTV footages. The other accident took place at Gajol in Malda when 60-year-old Riazuddin Seikh was killed after being hit by a motorcycle. Police said that the victim was walking along the road when a motorcycle suddenly hit him from behind. The victim lost his consciousness and was taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital by the local residents. The doctors pronounced him brought dead. Police have seized the motorcycle but are yet to arrest the biker.

In another accident 20 passengers were injured when a minibus they were travelling in overturned at Nasirhat area on Raiganj-Balurghat state highway. Police said that the Itahar-bound bus from Kaliaganj was going at top speed when the accident took place. The injured passengers were taken to Raigunj district hospital for treatment.
