Seven critically injured after truck hits bus in Basirhat

Seven persons were injured after a truck hit a private bus at Basirhat in North 24 Paragnas on Friday night. A mob went on a rampage ransacking the vehicle and then set the truck on fire soon after the incident. The accident triggered tension at Basirhat's Paikpara. An irate mob ransacked a few vehicles to protest against police's negligence to arrest drivers who do not obey traffic rules.

The incident led to a massive traffic jam in the locality. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and traffic movement gradually became normal after the police dispersed the mob.
"The truck hit the bus from behind. Six persons in the bus and the truck driver were injured after the incident. We took them to the hospital. They were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition," said a police officer.

In another incident at Sector V in Salt Lake, a private bus hit a youth on the road and escaped from the spot. The local people rescued the youth and took him to a hospital. Police said, Sabauddin Molla (23), the youth, was crossing the road while the incident took place at around 8.30 am on Saturday. A case was initiated on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim youth. "It was a New Town – Exide route bus which hit the youth on the road. We are conducting raids to arrest the accused driver. Some local shopkeepers took down the number of the bus while the incident took place," said a police source.

Meanwhile, a college student was injured when the bus he was travelling in lost control and overturned on National Highway 34 at Itahar. The student was returning from a tour when the accident took
place early on Saturday morning. The injured were taken to a local hospital.
