Cop who had gone for treatment arrests fake doctor after suspicion

An Inspector-in-Charge of the women police station at English Bazar in Malda has arrested a fake doctor to whom she had gone for treatment after she fell ill.

The woman IC Sarbari Bhattacharya went to the chamber of the accused at around 10 pm on Wednesday. While he was examining her, Bhattacharya had a suspicion on the doctor and started interrogating him. In the face of interrogation, the accused, Md Alamgir became puzzled by the questions and finally admitted that he never did an MBBS course. He was taken to the police station on Wednesday night. After a thorough interrogation, police finally arrested the accused on Thursday morning.

During the interrogation, the accused, however, told the police that he had completed a homeopathy course from the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital and obtained a homeopathic degree. Police are yet to ascertain if he had obtained a homeopathic degree.

Police have arrested the accused because he had been prescribing allopathic medicines to the patients. The accused doctor also put up a sign board outside his chamber claiming his false degrees. Police came to know in the interrogation that the accused was originally a resident of Kotalpukur in Jharkhand. He opened a chamber at Pirojpur area of Malda and started treating patients.

Alamgir claimed that he used to work as a medical officer at a private hospital in Malda after completing homeopathic course from Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. Police are investigating if the accused had ever gone to Midnapore Medical College to study homeopathy.

It may be mentioned that senior health officials in East Burdwan district on Thursday interrogated two fake doctors who had been practicing in different places in Katwa without valid registrations. The accused broke down in the face of the interrogation and admitted their guilt.
