The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been informed on Wednesday about the inability of Iqbal Ahmed, deputy Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), to turn up at the agency's office in Nizam Palace for interrogation in connection with the Narada sting operation.
Danish Sheikh, counsel of Ahmed, on Wednesday went to the office of CBI and communicated that it is not possible for Ahmed to turn up at their
office as he is admitted to a hospital.
Ahmed was admitted to a private hospital on June 16, a day after he was being interrogated by the CBI officers for around seven hours. Ahmed had assured all cooperation to the central investigating agency to probe into the incident. But he was helpless and couldn't turn up at the CBI's office as he was suffering from severe chest pain and had to get admitted to hospital.
On Tuesday, CBI officers went to the hospital and served a notice to Ahmed summoning him for further interrogation on June 22.
Sources said that Ahmed's counsel told the CBI officers that his client will give answers to all their questions if they go to the hospital and question him.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Syed Tazdar Ali Mirza, alias Tiger, in a similar connection. He has been asked to turn up at their office at the Central Government Office complex at Salt Lake.
The investigating agency wants to question him as it has been alleged that he had taken Narada News CEO to the political leaders.
The investigating agency has also summoned Ahmed and his counsel has informed the ED officers that it is not possible right at this moment to go for interrogation due to his ill health.
Both, CBI and ED have questioned Samuel in connection with the sting operation. Now, the investigating officers would take the statement of the Mirza and Ahmed to verify the claims made by Samuel during interrogation.
