The state government wrote to the State Election Commission urging to conduct elections in seven Municipalities and Municipal Corporations in the state on August 6.
The state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs department sent the letter in this connection to the election commission on Wednesday.
The civic bodies that are going for the polls are Dhupguri, Durgapur, Panskura, Haldia, Buniadpur, Balurghat and Coopers Camp.
Elections of the Haldia and Panskura Municipalities are the most crucial ones as the five year term of both the civic bodies are going to come to an end in June. The elections of the two Municipalities were held in 2012 on June 3. The poll results were out on June 5 and the board was formed on June 26.
The work of delimitation is also complete in the areas where polls are going to be held on August 6. After delimitation, the total number of wards under Panskura Municipality has gone up to 18. Earlier, there were only 17 wards under Panskura Municipality.
Similarly, the number of wards under Haldia Municipality had also gone up. It was earlier 26 and now there are 29 wards in Haldia Municipality.
Municipalities including Dhupguri and Panskura are under the Trinamool Congress. The party workers have started working to make better results in their respective areas in the forthcoming elections soon after they came to know that the polls are going to be held on August 6.
