Six eve-teasers arrested

Police arrested six eve-teasers from Burdwan town on Saturday. Women police officers in plain clothes caught these eve-teasers from the spot. Police said that the accused persons were standing in front of a girl's school and passing lewd remarks at the students. The lady officers were closely watching the incident and they promptly arrested the culprits.

The authority of several girls' schools recently lodged complaints with the district police that incidents of eve-teasing have increased in front of the schools. The police stepped up vigil around the town's schools and colleges soon after getting the complaint. "The decision was taken in a high-level meeting that we will initiate a drive against eve-teasers and it will be continued," said a police officer. The local residents welcomed the move." A local said: "Women and the girls cannot walk on the road at night in this town.

These eve-teasers are not only targeting the colleges and schools but they are also targeting the passers-by." The authority of a women's college recently had spoken to senior police officers, requesting to step up security.
