Another fake doctor arrested

Police arrested another fake doctor from Nadia on charges of practicing as an MBBS without a valid registration. Police have also arrested his assistant in this connection.

Some of the local residents found that the accused Anil Das was prescribing ayurvedic medicines whereas his prescription mentions that he is an MBBS doctor.

This aroused the suspicion of the local residents and they asked the accused to produce the registration number which the accused eventually failed to do.

Local residents, however, claimed that during questioning, the accused admitted that he never took an MBBS course and neither did he have a valid registration. An irate mob beat up the fake doctor while two of his associates fled the spot.

After being informed, the police reached the spot and took the accused to the police station. After a prolonged interrogation, the police arrested the accused late on Wednesday night. One of his associates was also held by the police for his alleged involvement in the incident.

Police said that the accused doctor, who is originally a resident of Sarsuna area in Behala, used to run a chamber at Chinsurah in Hooghly and treat patients as an MBBS doctor. He was arrested by Nadia police when he went to Hashkhali area to attend a health camp.

The accused doctor along with two others went to attend the health camp which was organised by a local club at Muragacha area under Hashkahli police station. Kanu Biswas, who has also been arrested by the police, had organised the health camp.

The patients who enlisted their names in the health camp were all charged Rs 30, while those who consulted the accused doctor had to give Rs 200 as consultation fees and around an additional fee of Rs 400 for medicines.

The club members noticed that the medicines which were prescribed by the

accused doctor were ayurvedic while his prescription claimed that he was an MBBS doctor. They started questioning the accused when he broke down. Meanwhile, police have started a probe in this regard.
