The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) on Thursday installed an 'airport-like' water fountain at the bus terminus in Action Area I as a part of the drive for the welfare of citizens.
The water fountain was installed on a pilot basis. If the project turns out to be a success, it will be installed in other bus shelters as well. Water taps installed in different parts in the city has two major disadvantages. Firstly, one has to use hands to drink water and secondly, glasses are often tied to the taps for the users but this arrangement is not hygienic. One can drink from the water fountains installed in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport without using hand or glasses. Debashis Sen, chairman of HIDCO said the functioning of the fountain which was installed on Thursday, would be kept under watch and if need be, modifications would be done. It may be mentioned that HIDCO has introduced a series of citizen-friendly steps for the residents of New Town which include opening parks and giving proper road signages among others.
