Youth injured by miscreants while trying to save sister from eve-teasing

A youth suffered a critical injury on his throat while trying to save his younger sister from the eve-teasers.

The incident occurred at Baishnavnagar in Malda on Thursday. It had triggered tension in the locality with the local residents staging demonstrations demanding the arrest of the accused.

The victim Subrata Sarkar, a resident of Sabdalpur under Baishnabnagar police station was taking his younger sister to school on Thursday morning when some youth started hurling expletives at the girl. Subrata, a second year student of South Malda College, protested against the incident which led to the miscreants pouncing on him and punching him.

He fell on the ground after receiving several blows and one of the miscreants suddenly took out a sharp weapon and slashed his throat. The local residents rushed to his rescue after hearing his screams and took him to the Malda Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, the miscreants fled the spot immediately after the incident.

After being informed by the local residents, police reached the spot and started a probe in this regard. The local residents told the police that the culprits often gathered in the locality and teased schoolgirls. But the local residents are too frightened to protest against them as they almost always carry arms with them. They also indulge in various anti-social activities in the area. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
