Two school students were injured after a taxi hit the car in which they were travelling at Salt Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Police said that the taxi hit the private car from behind and the two students who were sitting inside received injuries on their heads and legs. The injured students were taken to a local hospital along with the taxi driver who received minor injuries as well. Police later arrested the taxi driver from the hospital.
Police learnt that the two students – Boby Das and Sayan Das — were coming back from a private tuition when the incident took place. The car was hit by the taxi near Salt Lake's Vidyasagar Island.
"I was standing nearby when the incident took place. The car was running at a normal speed but the taxi, which was coming at a high speed, hit the car from behind," said an eyewitness.
The local resident rescued the students and the taxi driver and took them to the hospital. They called up police to remove the damaged vehicles standing on the road.
"The students were really scared. We have called up their parents and relatives after taking phone number from them. Later, police removed the cars from the road," the eyewitness added.
Meanwhile, in another incident on Tuesday night, a taxi collided with a private car face to face near Technopolis Crossing in Sector V. Police seized both the vehicles.
