Husband held at gunpoint, wife gang-raped

Two youth stormed into a house at Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas and gang-raped a woman keeping her husband at gunpoint.

The incident occurred at Gajirhat area of Raspunj under Bishnupur police station on Tuesday night. The miscreants entered the house of the victim by breaking open the door and carried out the crime. They miscreants came on a motorcycle and parked it outside the house. One of the miscreants managed to flee from the spot after the incident while the other had been caught by the local residents. The

incident triggered tension among the local residents.

One of the accused who was caught and later handed over to the police has been identified as Piklu Pramanik. The local residents became agitated and beat up the accused before handing him over to the police. The irate mob set the motorcycle on fire that was parked outside the house of the victim.

After being informed, police reached the spot and arrested the accused on the basis of the compliant by the victim. The victim's husband told the police that the accused broke into his house. One of them put a gun on his head while the other dragged his wife to a corner of the room and tortured her. The accused threatened the victim's husband of dire consequences if he shouts and tries to attract the attention of neighbours. After committing the crime, the accused were trying flee from the house when the local people caught one of the accused.

Police identified the other accused who fled from the spot as one Nitai Sardar. Both the accused are residents of a nearby village. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprit who has been absconding. A police picket has been set up in the village as there was tension in the area.

In another incident, a minor girl was alleged raped by an accused. The incident occurred at Fasideoa block in Siliguri. The local residents also beat up the accused and later handed him over to the police. The accused Md Safir allegedly lured the victim girl to his house and allegedly raped her. After being attracted by the screams of the victim, the local residents rushed to the spot and caught the accused. The victim was rescued and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
