Crude bombs were found by East Midnapore police at Jagannathpur on Monday morning. The villagers spotted a drum in a ground while they were working there and soon informed the matter to the Panchayat members.
"We have called up the police to take away these bombs from the locality," said a Panchayat member.
The investigators learnt that some criminals had kept these bombs inside the drums and were waiting for an opportunity to take them back in their possession.
"There were five or six bombs inside the drum which was later defused by the policemen," said a villager.
Some villagers informed the police that they saw some youth keeping the drum in that ground on Sunday night. But the villagers could not identify them.
Police started raids to seize more such bombs hidden in the district.
"We have informed police stations to conduct raids in their respective areas to seize crude bombs kept in the villages," said a police officer.
It may be mentioned that Birbhum and Murshidabad police have already stepped up efforts to capture illegal arms and ammunition after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave a stern warning recently at the district review meeting to enhance vigilance and check bomb-manufacturing, particularly in sensitive areas.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also instructed the police to shut down all the arms and bomb-making units in the districts.
The Chief Minister had said that the administration will not allow anybody to create trouble in the villagers.
