2 arrested for trying to smuggle out antique idol

An antique idol of ashtadhatu worth Rs 40 crore has been recovered during a raid conducted by the police when two youth were trying to smuggle it outside the country. It was recovered from an area between Bagdogra and Naxalbari. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the raid and found the youth trying to escape. They were carrying the idol in a bag and the police seized it.

It was sent to experts in North Bengal University and after proper assessment it was determined that the idol weighed around 12.780 kg and is worth around Rs 40 crore. The police are trying to find the other members of the racket and are taking the help of the experts to know from where it was stolen.
