Three arrested for running sleaze racket in Sonarpur

The South 24 Parganas police on Sunday arrested three women on charges of running a sleaze racket in a house at Purba Shitala area in Sonarpur.

Police said the owner of the house, identified as one Sumita Kar, a middle-aged woman, was running the racket.

The residents at Purba Shitala informed the matter to a local club on Saturday and the club members broke the door of the house and caught three women, including the owner Sumita Kar.

Three men who were there inside the house managed to escape the spot.

Police started an investigation on the basis of the complaint lodged by the local residents.

The investigators learnt that Kar, a widow was running this racket for the past few weeks. The local residents often saw some men and women enter Kar's house late at night and only left early next morning.

"We had informed the matter to the police but no steps were taken against the house owner. The club members have done the right thing. They caught the women and handed them over to the police," said a local resident.

The investigators suspect that the house owner used to shoot adult movies there as well.

She had sold those videos to her clients in Sonarpur. Some instruments including hand-held cameras were also found from the spot.

The club members damaged the house and broke windowpanes by hurling stones after they caught the accused women.

The women who reside in the location came outside and started to beat the accused. The police reached there to rescue them and took the accused to the police station.

"We suspect that another person is involved in this racket. Kar, the house owner and the prime accused in this case was connected with the person," a police officer said.
