Two free-of-cost buses introduced for CU students

In a unique move, two buses have been introduced to give free-of-cost pick and drop services to students of Calcutta University from hostels to campuses of the varsity.

There are eight campuses of the varsity and hostels at different points. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had assured the students of the university to introduce an inter-campus bus movement. Taking necessary initiatives, the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) has introduced two buses in collaboration with Calcutta University on Thursday. Partha Chatterjee, the state Education minister, was present in the programme from where the buses were flagged off on Thursday. Narayan Swaroop Nigam, Managing Director of WBTC, was also present in the programme.

An MoU was signed between WBTC and the university authorities to run the buses to let students get free-of-cost transport facility between different campuses of the university and hostels. One bus will start its journey everyday from Kantakal Campus of the university near Sinthi More in North Kolkata at 9.30 am. The bus will be passing through Hedua Park for students staying in Beadon Hostel, Vivekananda Road from where students staying in the law hostel can avail the bus, City College Amherst Street, Shraddhananda Park, BB Ganguly Street, Esplanade Metro Cinema, Alipore Campus, Hazra Campus and Ballygunge Science College. In the evening, the bus will be setting out at 4.30 pm from Alipore Campus of Calcutta University.

The bus that will be connecting all the campuses with South Kolkata and Salt Lake will be setting out at the same time in morning from the Hazra Campus of the university and it will be passing via Ballygunge Circular Road, APC Road and Sealdah. The same bus will also be operating upto Nano Science Campus at Salt Lake Sector III after passing through Beliaghata Main Road via Paribesh Bhavan.
