Three killed, four injured in car accident at Falta

Three persons, including a girl, were killed and four others were injured when the car they were travelling in was hit by a speeding bus at Falta in South 24 Parganas on Thursday morning.
The incident triggered tension in the area. Police said that all the victims were going to a relative's house at Bagaria from Basudebpur under Falta police station in the car when it met with an accident. According to the police, there were seven persons in the car, including the driver, when the accident occurred. Police are yet to divulge the names of the deceased.

Local people told police that the car was crossing Banganagar area as a speeding bus approached it from the opposite direction. As the bus was moving at a high speed, the driver could not control the vehicle and it collided head on with the car. The impact of the accident was so high that the car fell into a nearby ditch. Attracted by the loud thud, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victims from the damaged car.

The local people rushed all the victims to Diamond Harbour District Hospital where three persons were declared brought dead while the injured were transferred to a city hospital as their condition deteriorated. According to the doctors at Diamond Harbour Hospital, four persons had received serious injuries and the condition of some of the injured persons is stated to be critical.
After being informed of the incident, police reached the spot and seized the bus.

The driver and the conductor of the bus fled the spot immediately after the accident. There was tension in the area following the accident. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police are also investigating if the driver of the bus had fallen asleep on the wheel at the time of the accident. The authorities are conducting raids to nab the bus driver.
